    Bonang Matheba, widely known as “Queen B,” stands as a cultural icon and media royalty in South Africa. Born on June 25, 1987, in Mahikeng, North West, she has built a remarkable career. She works as a television presenter, radio personality, actress, and businesswoman. Moreover, she commands a strong social media presence. Known for her glamorous and audacious style, Bonang has made a profound impact on the South African entertainment scene and beyond.

    Early Life and Career Beginnings

    Bonang grew up in an environment that deeply valued education and ambition. Both of her parents encouraged her aspirations. Her mother, Charlotte Mokoena, was a senior executive at Sasol. Meanwhile, her father, Gampi Matheba, worked as a university lecturer. At Fourways High School, Bonang first showed signs of her captivating charisma. Later, she attended the University of Johannesburg. There, she likely honed skills that boosted her success in media and entertainment.

    Her TV career began with hosting SABC 1’s LIVE show, now called Live Amp. Her lively presence quickly gained attention. Consequently, she became a vital figure in South African media.

    Bonang’s career includes many firsts and major achievements. In 2013, she made history as the first South African and African to become a global ambassador for Revlon. This expanded her recognition worldwide. Then, in 2014, she became the first South African to host the pre-show for the MTV Europe Music Awards. This milestone cemented her international status.

    By 2015, Bonang appeared on an E! News Special Africa broadcast, one of the first Africans to do so. This appearance showcased her versatility on the global stage. Additionally, in 2017, she published From A to B and launched Being Bonang. Both projects gave fans an intimate look into her life, thereby strengthening her brand.

    Recent Developments and Current Influences

    Bonang’s momentum has continued into the 2020s. Notably, she hosted the prestigious Earthshot Prize Awards in 2024. This event took place for the first time in Africa, hosted in Cape Town, South Africa. Beyond traditional media, Bonang boasts over 5 million followers on Instagram and Twitter combined. Hence, social media greatly amplifies her reach and influence.

She also hosts popular shows such as Afternoon Express and Top Billing on SABC 3. Moreover, her radio show The Front Row on Metro FM has wide popularity.
