BAFANA BAFANA VS MALAWI – This afternoon, Bafana Bafana face a pivotal challenge at Loftus Versfeld Stadium as they aim to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Malawi in the second leg of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025 qualifiers. The national team must secure a win by at least two goals to progress directly. A 1-0 victory would push the tie into a penalty shootout.

Bafana Bafana vs Malawi Match Details

    • Kick-off: 15:00 SAST
    • Venue: Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Pretoria
    • Aggregate Score: Malawi leads 1-0

    CHECK LIVE STREAM HERE:

    Ntseki’s Tactical Emphasis

Head coach Molefi Ntseki has expressed confidence in his squad’s understanding of the stakes involved. He emphasized the need for a balanced approach. They must maintain defensive solidity while being assertive in attack. “Our strategy is to remain disciplined at the back and aggressive going forward,” Ntseki stated. He highlighted the importance of managing set pieces effectively. Ensuring that the team does not concede, all while creating scoring opportunities, is crucial.

    Maema’s Return Bolsters the Squad

The return of Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Neo Maema, who missed the first leg due to club commitments, is a significant boost for Bafana Bafana. Maema resumes his role as captain, bringing leadership and experience to the side. Reflecting on the importance of the match, Maema remarked, “It’s been 12 years since South Africa last qualified for CHAN, and that’s something we want to change.” His presence is expected to inspire the team to deliver a performance worthy of qualification.

    Malawi’s Confidence and Strategy

Malawi, having secured a late 1-0 victory in the first leg through Zeliat Nkhoma’s 87th-minute goal, approach the second leg with cautious optimism. Assistant coach Peter Mponda dismissed suggestions that South Africa’s squad reinforcements indicate panic. He stated, “We are not losing sleep because they have brought in some players. “We are prepared for them.” Head coach Kalisto Pasuwa emphasised the need for a balanced approach. He warned against complacency and highlighted the importance of both attacking and defending effectively.

High Stakes for CHAN 2025 Qualification

The winner of this tie will secure a spot in the CHAN 2025 finals, set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in August. For Bafana Bafana, qualifying would mark a significant achievement, ending a 12-year absence from the tournament. Ntseki acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained optimistic. He stated, “We have learned from the first leg and are ready to implement our tactics effectively in the second leg”.

As the nation rallies behind Bafana Bafana, the team is poised to deliver a performance that could secure their place in CHAN 2025. This could reignite their presence on the continental stage.
