Mandela Day Celebration 2025: Honouring Madiba’s Legacy Through Art and Words

As South Africa gears up to celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day on July 18th, 2025, the province of Gauteng continues to uphold the late icon’s legacy. They do so through powerful community initiatives and social justice efforts. This year, MORAME Tourism is taking meaningful steps to honour Mandela’s contributions. They are organizing a fundraiser designed to benefit development projects across the province. The fundraiser will promote youth empowerment, education, and community welfare.

    About the Event

MORAME has announced the upcoming Mandela Day fundraiser, set to take place on Saturday, 19th July 2025, at the vibrant Cirqlar@Bidon in Muldersdrift, Gauteng. This special occasion seeks to honour the enduring legacy of Nelson Mandela through a dynamic blend of arts, culture, and community spirit. All proceeds from the event will support MORAME’s development initiatives. These initiatives are aimed at uplifting local communities and fostering social cohesion.

A Day of Reflection, Celebration, and Impact

The event promises a meaningful and immersive experience. It will showcase the values that Nelson Mandela lived by: unity, justice, and collective action.

    The programme will feature:

    • Poetry Readings: Thought-provoking readings inspired by Mandela’s writings and the broader struggle for freedom, delivered by renowned local poets.
    • Live Music: The soulful melodies of local jazz musicians will fill the air. This offers a powerful soundtrack to the celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy.
    • Arts and Crafts Stalls: A vibrant marketplace offering handcrafted goods and local art. Here, guests can support South African talent while enjoying the day’s festivities.

    Inspiring Speeches and Auction

In addition to the cultural activities, keynote speakers will share their thoughts on the continuing relevance of Mandela’s values. The guest list includes:

    • Cllr Sivuyile Boyce, MMC WRDM Economic and Re-Industrialisation
    • Cllr Lucky Sele, Mayor of Mogale City
    • Other distinguished figures from various sectors will provide insights into how South Africans can unite. Their discussions will address pressing social issues such as poverty and inequality.

The event will also feature Kevin Joseph, widely known as Madiba’s Lensman. He will be selling his book Mandela in Focus and auctioning six unique pieces of artwork that commemorate the life of Nelson Mandela.

    A Call to Action

“Mandela Day is more than a day of commemoration, it’s a call to action,” says Mr. David Tshelapedi, CEO of MORAME. “This fundraiser at Cirqlar@Bidon is a celebration of Madiba’s spirit. Every contribution helps to continue the work he started. Moreover, it supports destination marketing, product development, training and skills development, and community advocacy.
