    RolivhuwaBy Rolivhuwa23 June , 2025
Personal Assistant Job Opportunity at the City of Ekurhuleni

In the heart of Gauteng, the City of Ekurhuleni is calling out to dynamic and driven individuals to fill a key role in its Human Settlement Department. They are currently hiring a Personal Assistant (HSET50001)—a crucial support role that promises not just a competitive salary but also the chance to be a part of something meaningful: improving service delivery and governance at a municipal level.

This permanent role is more than just a desk job; it’s about becoming the right hand of a department that plays a vital role in shaping communities. With a remuneration package that ranges from R371,208 to R509,256 per annum (basic salary, excluding benefits), this opportunity offers both financial security and career growth.

    What Makes This Role Special?

The position is set within the bustling Human Settlement Department, a space where plans are made and executed to uplift the living conditions of local residents. As a Personal Assistant, your day-to-day duties will not only support the Head of Department but also directly impact the smooth functioning of the entire division.

The role requires someone who’s more than just organised. This is for a confident, emotionally intelligent individual who can handle pressure, communicate clearly, and manage both people and documents with grace and precision.

    Minimum Requirements to Qualify

To be considered, candidates must meet a few key criteria:

    • Educational background: A Grade 12 certificate and a Secretarial Diploma (or equivalent qualification) are essential.
    • Technical skills: Proficiency in MS Office is a must. Candidates should be able to use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint comfortably, especially when formatting reports and drafting documents.
    • Work experience: A minimum of three years in a similar environment is required. This experience should include handling correspondence, coordinating meetings, and managing administrative tasks.
    • Soft skills: Strong organisational abilities, time management, and communication skills (both verbal and written) are non-negotiable. Applicants should also be able to work independently while staying aligned with management expectations.

Furthermore, applicants should understand Local Government operations, have knowledge of administrative procedures, and know their way around document control, meeting protocols, and office governance. These are the cornerstones of the department’s operations and are vital for the role.

    Key Responsibilities

Here’s a glimpse into what the job entails:

    • Acting as a liaison between council offices, internal departments, and various structures concerning service delivery.
    • Managing the flow of information in and out of the department with precision and confidentiality.
    • Coordinating all meetings and workshops—including logistics, catering, venue bookings, and necessary documentation.
    • Handling correspondence in accordance with approved procedures and maintaining records in line with registry standards.
    • Using software tools to draft, format, and edit various documents and reports.
    • Identifying and resolving problems independently, escalating complex issues when necessary.
    • Supporting the Head of Department by managing queries and ensuring efficient office operations.

Most importantly, the Personal Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring that the department is not just functioning, but thriving.

    How to Apply

Interested candidates should note that the closing date for applications is June 25, 2025. If you applied previously, don’t worry—you can re-apply, as all previous applications will not be considered automatically.

Applicants may also be asked to provide proof of the NQF level of their qualifications. For further enquiries, contact the city at Tel: 0860 54 3000.

    Apply Here!

If you don’t hear back within six weeks after the closing date, unfortunately, your application was not successful. However, keep an eye on future opportunities with the City of Ekurhuleni—they are always on the lookout for talent that can help shape better communities.

The City is an equal opportunity employer and subscribes to the principles of the Employment Equity Act. They reserve the right to appoint, not appoint, or appoint someone laterally based on merit and fit.
