Residents of Johannesburg should brace for a week of widespread, scheduled power outages. Starting Tuesday, City Power will implement 8-hour power cuts across multiple suburbs, affecting thousands of homes and businesses. These outages, planned from 10 to 15 June 2025, are part of ongoing infrastructure maintenance to stabilize the city’s electricity grid.

Which areas will power outages affect?
The power outages will roll out by region. On Tuesday, 10 June, Region F and Region G will experience the first round of cuts. In Region F, areas like Wanderers Street, Hospital ‘N’, and Sutherland Street will go dark from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Region G, including Finetown, Grassmere Tollgate, and parts of Lenasia South, will lose power between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
On June 11, power outages will affect parts of Region A. Residents of Noordwyk EXT 43 and surrounding streets like Alwyn and Westbrook should expect no power from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The maintenance will continue through the week and wrap up with more cuts on Sunday, 15 June, targeting areas supplied by the Ethor Johnson Switching Station.
