Following its successful elective conference and annual general meeting (AGM), held on April 23, 2025, at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park. Celebrating Leadership and Unity in the Taxi Sector
The JMTTA AGM served not only as a platform for administrative decisions but also as a celebration of leadership and industry achievements. The atmosphere was lively and energetic, with gospel sensations Dumi Mkokstad and Mthandeni SK setting the tone through uplifting performances that energized the crowd.
Outgoing deputy chairperson Mr. Sibeko officially opened the proceedings with a warm welcome address. This was met with enthusiastic applause from attendees. His speech emphasized the importance of collaboration, safety, and ongoing innovation in the minibus taxi industry. The industry is the backbone of South Africa’s public transport system.

In the main event of the day, members voted to elect their new executive leadership. Mr. Sibeko was re-elected as the chairperson of the Johannesburg, Midrand, Tembisa Taxi Association. He secured 120 votes in a clear show of confidence from the membership. Mr. Nzaba and Mr. Thwala were also elected to serve as the new deputy chairpersons.
In his acceptance speech, Sibeko expressed deep gratitude for the support he received:
“I am humbled and honoured to be re-elected as the chairperson of JMTTA. I look forward to continuing our work with our members and ensuring the taxi industry remains safe and efficient.”
Under Sibeko’s previous leadership, the JMTTA made significant strides in improving safety, service delivery, and driver professionalism. This aimed at promoting fair engagement with government and regulatory bodies.

“Under his leadership, I feel safe when using a taxi. I’ve stopped using my car, and I’ve saved money. His leadership has made a huge difference in my life,” Ngobeni said.
Nkosi Nxumalo, another JMTTA member, shared his excitement about the outcome:
“Mr. Sibeko’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping the future of our industry, and I’m excited to see what the future holds under his continued guidance.”
