Gauteng Traffic Police Arrest 43 Reckless Drivers on Freeways

The Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP) have cracked down on reckless driving across major Gauteng freeways, arresting 43 motorists in a recent enforcement operation aimed at improving road safety.
Reckless Speeds Lead to Arrests
Drivers aged between 21 and 44 were apprehended for reckless and negligent driving. An alternative charge was applied to those exceeding the prescribed freeway speed limit of 120 km/h. Speeds recorded during the operation ranged from 148 km/h to a staggering 188 km/h.
Key Enforcement Locations
The speed enforcement campaign targeted major routes across the province, including:
- N4 Freeway – Emalahleni to Pretoria
- N1 Freeway – Towards Johannesburg
- R21 OR Tambo Freeway – Leading to Pretoria
Notable Arrests
One of the most extreme cases involved a 37-year-old driver behind the wheel of a grey BMW, caught driving at 188 km/h on the N4 Emalahleni freeway. The driver was immediately apprehended and faced the full extent of the law.
