The City of Ekurhuleni is seeking qualified, physically fit individuals for a permanent position as a General Assistant in the Water & Sanitation Department. This role plays a vital part in maintaining and improving the municipality’s water and sewer infrastructure.

- Basic Salary: R171,972.00 to R235,896.00 per annum

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Minimum of Grade 10
- Experience: At least 1 year in a similar work environment
- Physical Ability: Must be able to perform labour-intensive tasks
Responsibilities
As part of the Blockages & Clean-up Teams, the successful candidate will:
- Assist with maintenance, repair work, and new installations on water and sewer networks
- Carry out manual excavation using appropriate tools
- Prepare trenches for laying water and sewer pipes
- Perform backfilling and compaction using a shovel or compactor
- Enter sewer pump stations to remove blockages, rags, and foreign objects
- Ensure full compliance with safety standards and procedures
- Support general handyman and maintenance tasks
- Operate and maintain equipment, tools, and plant safely
- Clean worksites, offices, and ablution facilities after task completion
- Adhere to all relevant by-laws, legislation, and municipal policies
