Gold Reef City is not just an amusement park – it’s a vibrant piece of Johannesburg history and culture. Located in the heart of Gauteng’s biggest city, Gold Reef City celebrates South Africa’s rich mining heritage, evolving from a humble mine tour into a full-fledged theme park. Today, it blends a 19th-century mining atmosphere with modern thrills. Staff dress in period costume, and ride like the Tower of Terror, plunging a retired mineshaft. For Gauteng thrill-seekers and families, the 2025 one-ticket pricing plan makes planning ahead easy and cost-effective. This guide covers entry fees, the booking process, and insider tips for a stress-free day out.

    What Is Gold Reef City?

Situated in Ormonde, Johannesburg, Gold Reef City is a theme park with a rich backstory centered around a 19th-century gold mine. Over the years, it has expanded from a small mining exhibit to a full-scale entertainment hub filled with roller coasters, a 4D cinema, a train museum, and even a Jump City trampoline park. The park offers experiences that cater to all ages and interests, combining historical charm with pulse-raising fun.

    2025 Entrance Fees

Gold Reef City now operates with a single full-day ticket system. General admission is R295 per person. This all-access ticket includes unlimited rides and attractions—from the Tower of Terror and Anaconda to kids’ rides and Jump City trampoline park. You pay once and enjoy the entire day.

Tsogo Rewards members enjoy discounted pricing based on their tier. For instance, a 10-Tier member pays R266, J-Tier R251, Q-Tier R236, K-Tier R148, and A-Tier just R74. These tier-based savings make multiple visits affordable, especially for locals who frequent the park or plan group outings.

Extra value comes through birthday specials. Visitors who show a valid ID on their birthday receive free park entry. If the birthday falls on a closed day, guests can redeem the offer on the nearest Sunday. Group discounts are also available: 51–200 people pay R280 per person, while groups of over 1,500 pay R236 each. These perks make the park ideal for school outings, team-building events, or large family gatherings.

    Buying Tickets in Advance

Gold Reef City no longer sells tickets at the gate. All tickets must be booked online for a specific date. This streamlined system prevents overcrowding and ensures a smoother experience. To book:

    • Go to goldreefcity.co.za and navigate to “Prices & Tickets.”
    • Select your visit date and number of tickets (standard or Tsogo Rewards).
    • Enter your details and complete a secure payment online.
    • Check your email for e-tickets, which can be printed or scanned from a mobile device at the gate.

Booking in advance guarantees entry and skips the queues, especially during weekends and school holidays.

    Operating Hours and Location

Gold Reef City is open Wednesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. During Gauteng public school holidays, it opens daily from 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM.

Note: the park closes on Monday, 2 November 2025, for the National Day of Reconciliation.

You’ll find Gold Reef City at the corner of Northern Parkway and Data Crescent in Ormonde, Johannesburg. It’s easy to reach by car or taxi, and offers free parking. For GPS, enter “Gold Reef City, Ormonde, Johannesburg.”

    Practical Tips for Visitors

    • Plan Ahead: Since entry is by online booking only, reserve your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. Booking early also allows you to apply Tsogo Rewards discounts.
    • Check the Weather: Many rides are outdoors. In case of heavy rain or storms, some attractions may close temporarily. Visit the park’s “Ride Status” page for real-time updates.
    • Arrive Early: Beat the crowds and queues by arriving when the park opens. This gives you first access to popular rides.
    • Schedule Downtime: Allocate time for meals and shows. The park features various eateries and live entertainment options.
    • Use Special Offers: Have your Tsogo Rewards card ready, book group tickets in one transaction, and don’t forget your ID if it’s your birthday.
    • Follow Safety Guidelines: Hold onto personal items on rides, follow height restrictions, dress appropriately, and supervise children. Utilize available lockers and stroller rentals as needed.

By booking early and staying informed, you avoid common hassles and ensure a smooth day of fun.

    Why Gold Reef City Matters

For Gauteng residents, Gold Reef City offers both entertainment and cultural heritage. It supports local tourism, delivers educational experiences, and provides affordable fun. The flat-rate ticket eliminates hidden costs, offering full value for a full day’s entertainment. Schools and businesses benefit from structured group discounts. The park’s setting as a “living museum” adds historical context to its thrill factor.

Booking is easier than ever with clear pricing and an efficient online system. As some guides have noted, the new structure makes Gold Reef City a “one-price-fits-all, super-value, book-online-only experience.”

By following the tips in this guide, booking in advance, checking park conditions, and exploring available discounts, families can turn any weekend into a meaningful and memorable escape.

    Plan Your Visit Today

Adventure is waiting. With tickets sorted, the only thing left is to show up and enjoy. Whether you’re chasing an adrenaline high or planning a relaxed family day, Gold Reef City has it covered. Book online now, check the operating hours, and prep for the weather. Planning ensures a stress-free visit.

Gauteng’s premier theme park is right at your doorstep. Lock in your booking, gather your crew, and step into a world where history meets fun. With everything in place, all that’s left is to make lasting memories.
