Kaizer Chiefs Shock Fans with Contract U-Turn on George Matlou

Kaizer Chiefs FC are bracing themselves for a challenging season ahead, competing on multiple fronts. The Glamour Boys will be vying for at least four trophies, including the CAF Confederations Cup, which will see the team travel extensively across Africa.
In a surprising move, the club has decided to retain a player who was previously expected to leave.
Matlou Secures Contract Extension
Midfielder Lehlogonolo George Matlou, who has struggled to cement a regular spot in Nasreddine Nabi’s squad, was initially tipped for an exit. Despite flashes of his talent, Matlou’s inconsistency raised doubts about his future at the club.
However, with a busy season looming, Chiefs’ management believes Matlou could prove useful at key moments. As a result, the club has opted to extend his stay. MCS Sports Talent, the player’s agency, confirmed that Matlou has signed a one-year contract extension.
Matlou joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2022 from Swallows FC. Over three seasons, he has made 41 appearances but has largely been on the fringes, with just one cameo appearance this season so far.
As Chiefs gear up for a demanding campaign, fans will be watching closely to see if Matlou can step up and deliver when called upon.
What Do Fans Think?
George Matlou has shown glimpses of his ability, but the question remains: is he truly Amakhosi material? Supporters are keen to see how he performs in the coming months for the Black and Gold.
