Mamelodi Sundowns Open to Loan Move for Johannes Amid Lack of Game Time

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Kegan Johannes could be heading out on loan before the transfer window slams shut. Several clubs are believed to be keen on securing his services.

Struggles at Chloorkop

The 24-year-old joined the Brazilians from SuperSport United at the start of last season. However, he has found it difficult to cement his place in the star-studded squad. His exclusion from the team that represented Sundowns at the FIFA Club World Cup has only deepened uncertainty about his future at Chloorkop.

Despite Khuliso Mudau missing the opening stages of the campaign, Johannes has yet to make an appearance this season. Coach Miguel Cardoso has instead placed his trust in Zuko Mdunyelwa and the versatile Thapelo Morena for the right-back role.

Clubs Showing Interest

Reports suggest that several teams, including Siwelele FC, have expressed interest in taking Johannes on loan. A source close to the situation revealed that game time at Sundowns will remain scarce for the defender.

“From what I know, he will find it tough to break into the starting line-up because the coach feels other players are well ahead of him,” the source explained. “The club is open to letting him go out on loan to get regular minutes. With Mudau now back in contention, the competition will only get tougher.”

Injuries Hampering Progress

Johannes’ time at Sundowns has also been disrupted by recurring minor injuries, which have limited his chances to showcase his ability and fight for a regular starting berth.

With the window closing soon, a loan move looks increasingly likely as both the player and the club seek a solution that guarantees him much-needed playing time.
