    Overview of the Position

    The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), one of the leading universities in South Africa, is inviting applications for Marker Vacancies (x10). These positions are located within the Department of Technology and Vocational Education, which is a part of the Faculty of Humanities at TUT’s Soshanguve North Campus.

    The Department of Technology and Vocational Education at TUT is offering Marker positions for the following subjects:

    1. ALY105P and ALY105D – Academic Literacy and Life Skills
    2. IBL105D, IBL206D, IBL306D, and IBL107V – Industry-Based Learning I
    3. CBW105D, CBW206D, and CBW306D – College-Based Work Integrated Learning (WIL)
    4. CBA107V and CBB107V – College-Based WIL
    5. AEE105D, AEE206D, and AEE306D – Adult and Community Education Studies I
    6. AEG105D, AEG206D, and AEG306D – Adult Education Management
    7. CIF105D, CIF206D, and CIF306D – Curriculum Formal
    8. EAY206D and EAY306D – Entrepreneurship
    9. CII105D, CII206D, and CII306D – Curriculum and Instruction
    10. IED105D – Inclusive Education

    As part of your application, you will need to specify which subject(s) you are applying for.

    Key Performance Areas and Core Functions

    To succeed in this role, applicants must be prepared to meet the following key responsibilities:

    • Subject Knowledge: A deep understanding of the subject areas listed above is crucial. You should have a solid grasp of the curriculum, educational principles, and learning outcomes for each subject.
    • Strategic and Innovative Thinking: The role requires individuals who can think strategically and innovatively. You should be able to conceptualize and analyze learning materials effectively, ensuring that students meet academic standards.
    • Work Under Pressure: Marking assignments and exams can be a high-pressure task, especially when working with tight deadlines. Successful candidates must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently under such pressure.
    • Collaboration: While the role requires independent work, it also requires strong teamwork skills. You must be able to collaborate effectively with academic staff and fellow markers to ensure consistent grading and feedback.
    • Meeting Deadlines: Deadlines are a critical part of the academic process.

    Minimum Requirements

    Academic Qualifications

    • A Master’s Degree in Education, with specialized knowledge in Educational Studies. This is a key requirement for ensuring that applicants have the academic background necessary to engage with the curriculum at the tertiary level.
    • Certified Academic Records: All applicants must submit certified copies of their academic qualifications and records along with their application.

    Experience

    • A minimum of two years of teaching experience at a tertiary institution in the Education Department.
    • Applicants must have specialized knowledge or have taught in the Further Education and Training (FET) Phase and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at a university level for at least two years.
    • Previous Marking Experience: While not mandatory, prior experience in marking assignments or exams at the tertiary level will be an added advantage.

    Registration

    • Applicants should be registered with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) if applicable.
