Job Description

As a Paralegal / Associate at Medi Response, you will provide essential legal support to the organization by handling various aspects of legal matters. This will include drafting, reviewing, and managing important legal documents, such as client agreements, proposals, company policies, investigations, and more.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Paralegal / Associate will play a central role in maintaining the organization’s legal integrity. Some of the main responsibilities include:

Document Management & Drafting: You will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and managing various legal documents, including client agreements, proposals, and company policies. Your role will ensure all documents are legally sound and up-to-date.
Client Matter Management: You will manage client-related legal matters, ensuring smooth legal operations and timely resolution of any issues.
Legal Query Management: Handling all legal queries efficiently will be crucial, especially when the legal advice required extends to the company’s internal departments and clients.
Support with Litigation & Compliance: You will provide crucial assistance with litigation matters, helping the compliance department, and ensuring full adherence to the latest South African laws and regulations.
Adverse Event Reporting: It will be your responsibility to ensure all adverse events are reported promptly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Group Counsel.
Escalation of Issues: You will need to know when and how to escalate queries for higher-level review, especially with access to information requests or significant company agreements.
Workplace Investigations: You will support managers with workplace investigations, ensuring that the legal processes involved are managed appropriately and efficiently.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:

Educational Qualifications: A Paralegal qualification, with registration SAPA and NALA. Registration with the CCASA (Compliance Institute) would be a distinct advantage.
Experience: The candidate must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a legal support role, particularly in corporate law, compliance, and contract law.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of South African contract law, corporate law, and compliance regulations.
- Ability to draft and review legal documents with precision.
- Solid understanding of legal processes, including investigations, litigation support, and document management.
