Motorists in South Africa may soon feel some much-needed relief at the fuel pumps as international oil prices continue to decline. Early projections point to a potential drop in fuel costs, offering some economic breathing room for households and businesses alike.

Preliminary data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) suggests a possible decrease of around 48 cents per litre for 95 Unleaded petrol and 51 cents per litre for 93 Unleaded petrol. Diesel could also see a smaller but meaningful cut of about 10 cents per litre.
If the downward trend persists, motorists might benefit from even greater price drops up to 70 cents per litre for petrol and around 30 cents for diesel supported by a stronger rand and falling oil prices.
Rand Strength and Oil Price Decline
The rand recently strengthened after hitting a low of R17.17 against the US dollar and is currently trading at R17.21. Simultaneously, Brent Crude oil prices have dipped below $65 per barrel, with only a slight rebound after OPEC+ announced increased production.
This combination of a firmer currency and lower global oil prices is creating favourable conditions for a fuel price reduction heading into November.

A Year of Stable Fuel Pricing
Despite global economic fluctuations, South Africa has experienced relatively steady fuel prices throughout 2025. Petrol and diesel prices have remained close to January levels, with only a marginal increase of eight cents per litre recorded in October.
Current Petrol Prices
As of now, motorists are paying:
- 95 Unleaded Petrol: R20.84 per litre (coast) and R21.63 (Gauteng)
- 93 Unleaded Petrol: R21.48 per litre
- Diesel: Slightly adjusted with minor fluctuations in recent weeks.
Outlook for November 2025
If the current market trends hold, South Africans can expect noticeable savings on their next fill-up. A sustained decrease in international oil prices combined with a stable rand could help ease transport and logistics costs.
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy will announce the official fuel price adjustment at the end of October, confirming the final figures for November.
