Pressure Mounts on Kaizer Chiefs’ Bench as Masilela Sounds Alarm

Kaizer Chiefs legend Tsepo Masilela has issued a stern warning to Amakhosi’s technical team, insisting that results must come quickly despite the absence of head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

The Glamour Boys have endured a mixed run of form in recent weeks. After a strong start to the 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign, Chiefs have dropped eight points in their last four league games. Adding to their woes, they suffered a 1-0 first-leg defeat to Angolan side Kabuscorp in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup last weekend.

Masilela Concerned by Lack of Impact Players

Speaking on Soccer Beat, the former Bafana Bafana left-back pointed to Chiefs’ struggles in finding game-changers from the bench.

“It’s a big concern and looking at the upcoming fixture, they are a goal down; they need goals. If they don’t attack, create and score, it means they are out; they are going home. They should also check and revisit what was working in their first five games, where they did not concede,” Masilela said.

Pressure on Ben Youssef and Kaze

With Nabi currently ‘suspended’, assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze are steering the ship. Masilela believes they must step up or face the heat.

“The coaches, if they lose over the weekend, the pressure switches up. We’re not talking Nabi now; their heads are on the block. They need to know that they are not on holiday because Nabi just left it’s a game of results,” he warned.

Chiefs Must Revisit Early-Season Formula

Masilela urged Chiefs to rediscover the defensive solidity they showed earlier in the season, when they won three straight matches under Ben Youssef without conceding. Nabi’s brief return to the dugout was overshadowed by a heavy loss to Sekhukhune United, which raised further questions about the Tunisian’s future with the club.

Chiefs will now be desperate to overturn the 1-0 deficit when they host Kabuscorp in the decisive second-leg clash at FNB Stadium this Saturday.
