Financial Inclusion and Women Empowerment Technical Meeting in May 2025- Everything You Need To Know
Sun City set to welcome global leaders, policymakers, and change-makers for financial inclusion and women empowerment dialogue. The Department of Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities (DWYPD) is in partnership with the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Centre for Entrepreneurship Development. They will host two high-profile G20 events in Sun City, North West Province, this May. The events are poised to place South Africa at the forefront of global discussions on financial inclusion and women’s empowerment. They will also align with the G20’s broader agenda of fostering inclusive, resilient, and equitable economies.

The two events include:
- Financial Inclusion Conference: 6–7 May 2025
- 2nd Technical Meeting on the Empowerment of Women Working Group: 8–9 May 2025
These back-to-back gatherings will draw a diverse range of participants. These include G20 member states, international organizations, development agencies, civil society groups, and media representatives.
What the G20 Financial Inclusion Conference Aims to Achieve
The Financial Inclusion Conference will serve as a platform for dialogue and action among global stakeholders committed to creating financial systems that serve all members of society, especially the marginalized.
Key themes that will be addressed include:
- Access to digital financial services for women, youth, and persons with disabilities
- Innovative financing solutions for small businesses and start-ups
- Public-private partnerships that support inclusive economic growth
- Policy frameworks that enable financial access and equity
As financial systems evolve globally, digital transformation and access to capital remain key barriers for vulnerable groups. South Africa, through its leadership in the G20 Women Working Group, aims to present and discuss best practices that can be replicated or scaled in other emerging economies.
Financial Inclusion: Women Empowerment in the Spotlight
The 2nd Technical Meeting on the Empowerment of Women Working Group, taking place on 8–9 May, will focus on the advancement of gender equality and economic empowerment of women in all sectors of society.
Topics on the agenda include:
- Closing the gender pay gap
- Promoting female entrepreneurship
- Increasing women’s participation in STEM and innovation
- Strengthening legal and policy frameworks for gender equality
- Addressing unpaid care work and gender-based violence
This meeting builds on the work done during the previous G20 Women Empowerment Working Group meetings, and it will yield a set of strategic outcomes that can inform G20 leaders’ policy decisions.
